Beauty at any Age

I rarely watch TV these days, mostly due to my work schedule and the many things I pursue outside of work that don't allow me much time to enjoy the late night TV shows I used to love, like the Simpsons, Jay Leno, What not to Wear...etc. The other day I was at my parents for dinner and I accidentally caught a glimpse of one of the sexiest actresses as she made her way down the streets of Vancouver and was caught on film by the crew of a local TV show. All I could hear from the crew was "You're so beautiful!".

At the age of 67, Rachel Welch tops my list of one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, next to Sophia Loren. She managed to maintain a great posture and figure at her age, and she looks fantastic overall! It is one thing to be beautiful in your 20s or 30s because most likely you have been blessed by your parent's good genes, but to maintain that natural beauty into your 60s, that takes work! By "work" I don't mean plastic surgeries that give some people a permanent "surprised" look on their face, or lips that look like they were stung by bees, but I mean keeping a healthy diet and active exercise schedule as part of their lifestyle. I'm not against plastic surgeries, if done in moderation or due to health concerns. To me the key to total beauty is a healthy mind and body.

In 1984, Ms. Welch released "The Raquel Welch Total Beauty and Fitness Program" which I will surely check out. If I look half as good as she does now when I'm in my 60s, it will be all worth it ;)

Healthy Brain - Brain Diet

"What is good for the body is good for the mind."
The Omega 3 6 9 I ordered online arrived last week. I've been taking the vitamin since.. The pills are so big I'm full after I take them. Why can't they make the pills smaller? :) Anyway, along with the package came a booklet called "People's Health Series" featuring Mental Clarity at Any Age by Natraceutical Publishing group. It talks about your brain and what you can do maintain its health. Here are what they say you hsould do to reach your pinnacle peak of cognitive function such as memory, mental sharpness and preserving your quality of life:

Arobic exercise to boost brain power:
  • walking
  • jogging
  • dancing
  • hiking
  • swimming
  • bicycling
  • yoga
  • sports activities like tennis and racquetball

Mental exercise to challenge the mind:

  • reading
  • crossword puzzles
  • learning a new language
  • playing a musical instrument
  • socializing
  • playing cards (not gambling ;)

Foods to eat to restore clear mental function:

  • fish (in moderation)
  • variety of colorful fruits and vegetables
  • nuts
  • fiber-rich whole grains
  • grass-fed meats
  • egg yolks
  • olive oil
Avoid sugar, junk foods, preservatives, additives, alcohol, caffeine and carbornated beverages.

Looking at the list, if you have been keeping an active exercise schedule and maintained a healthy diet, you are already not only doing your body good but enhancing your mental health as well.

Heal Chapped Lips

I don't know what happened but I have the worst case of chapped lips ever! And no... I haven't been kissing too much... It is sore and completely dry. It can be a couple of reasons: the dry air caused by the cold weather we are having here in Vancouver or I'm allergic to my lipstick/lip gloss.

How to heal chapped lips? Here are some suggestions from mothernature.com:

  1. Use Vaseline or lip balm to seal in moisture, preferrably one that contains sunscreen, or
  2. Use 1% hydrocortisone under lip ointment
  3. Don't lick your lips, even when it feels dry
  4. Change your lipstick if you suspect it causes allergic reaction
Happy winter! :) Please let us know what other tips you have for curing a chapped pair of lips.
